A brief history
The Montevideo government documents Carlos Thays's plan, the beginning of planting in 1911 and the name Parque de los Aliados adopted in 1918.
It was renamed José Batlle y Ordóñez in 1930, the year the Estadio Centenario opened. The park was declared a National Historic Monument in 1975.
